Susie’s Book Nook – I’m Back!

It’s hard to believe I started this “Book Nook” in the

summer of 2022. I was inspired by two self-published books I had discovered that were

great for preschoolers and touched on our theme of “Caring for Creation.” In 2023 I

started featuring books themed around “Social Justice” alternating the themes each

month and geared to elementary school aged children. I have discovered so many

wonderful books, creative authors, amazing illustrators, and hours of great reading for

myself and to my grandchildren.

It's now May 2026 as I begin reading and writing again to bring good books and ideas to

whoever is checking out our “Book Nook” here on the Episcopal Church in Almaden’s

website. As I begin again, I want to focus on the theme of “Social Justice.”

My inspiration comes right from the Baptismal Covenant in our Book of Common Prayer

which asks these two questions.

  • Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as

yourself?

  • Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?

There is no better time for us to help our children and young people learn how to

navigate in our communities caring and helping one another. There is no better time to

help those we love to appreciate and respect one another, recognizing differences are

not to be feared but celebrated. Now is a great time to recognize our abundance and

there is always plenty to share with those in need.

I hope you will join me growing a kinder and more caring community and world using

literature to feed us with wholesome ideas and directions. May we all be fed so that we

care and in turn feed others.
